Stacey T. Davenport served as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Chesterfield County, Virginia from January 2020 until December 2023. She graduated from Wake Forest University with a major in Political Science and a minor in Religion, and she earned her Juris Doctor from the T. C. In addition to prosecuting in both Essex County and Henrico County prior to her service as the Chesterfield Commonwealth’ s Attorney, she also served as a Public Defender in the City of Richmond for more than 7 years. She also previously owned her own law firm where she focused her practice on representing clients charged with criminal offenses throughout Central Virginia.
Since graduating from law school, Ms. Davenport has intentionally focused her entire career on criminal justice.
Ms. Davenport has extensive trial experience before both judges and juries around Central Virginia, and she has chosen to focus most of her career on violent crimes and crimes against women and children. In 2022, she proudly served as lead counsel on a 25-year-old no-body domestic homicide case that resulted in a guilty verdict. Ms. Davenport is certified by the Virginia Indigent Commission to represent adults and juveniles charged with misdemeanors and felonies, and she previously held a certification to represent defendants facing the death penalty.
In addition to her work as a trial attorney, Ms. Davenport has lectured at trainings for other professionals as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney. Over the years, she has been a speaker at numerous trainings for attorneys, EMTs, victim advocates, and law enforcement. Many of her presentations have focused on issues related to the investigation of and how to effectively present testimony at the trial of violent criminal offenses. Until 2025, she was also a long-time faculty member of the Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Services Council’s annual Guns & Roses training for domestic violence investigators and prosecutors, a position which she held since the conference’s inception.
